Struggling to Make Sense of the Challenges with Proxmox LXC

Proxmox lxc containers are different from a traditional vm (virtual machine) in that it uses proxmox as it’s operating system. I don’t fully understand how they work but yesterday I tried downloading ubuntu 24.10 server from proxmox’s built in container store. It seems that proxmox’s servers must be down because every download failed, saying that the route to download.proxmox.com could not be reached. My network was otherwise working just fine and all my proxmox vm’s had internet access.

I also tried installing pihole on an ubuntu 22 server lxc container. It works differently than setting up software on a virtual machine. For one thing, it seems that the defualt configuration is to only have a root account?? Pihole works fine on the container but it’s when I tried installing Tailscale that I ran into more issues. I don’t remember the exact error code now because I’m typing this on mobile, but I found a Tailscale forum that basically said proxmox lxc containers can’t run Tailscale. At least not in a way that would be easy to setup.

So that’s my proxmox lxc containers adventures for now…
